My 2008 key (Comfort Access) started acting up with the buttons occasionally not working.
I was sure it was something mechanical because sometimes I could make it work if I pressed on the battery - sometimes not :dunno:
It finally quite working all together as a remote and only worked when inserted in the ignition. I decided to take it apart.
The plastic is very tough and thicker than I expected along the seem on the edge. I tried to use a razor knife but that was no good - I resorted to my dremel with a cutoff blade and sliced it open all the way around the edge.

The problem was pretty obvious. You can see where the battery clips on the back piece make contact with the circuit board has some discoloration - the contacts simply need cleaning.

I cleaned both sides with some 2000 grit sand paper

I put the case back together with hot glue. You can see I just let it ooze out the sides because it can be removed after it dries. The remote has a pretty ugly seam along the edge now but I will just get one of those key covers I see advertised - I think I saw a neoprene sleeve.

Now that I know what the problem was this could have been repaired without opening it up and I suggest you try that first. Look inside where the battry goes and you should be able to slip a small piece of sand paper under the contacts and slide it back and forth. Make sure you don't tear off the paper inside and get it stuck under the contacts!
