Former: '06 530i, sport pkg
Go to radardetector dot net to find a comprehensive discussion of these detector choices by a group devoted to a similar extent as this one.
Edit No. 1:
FWIW, I have an X50 that I wired in by taking a 4-wire RJ-11 cable and feeding under the headliner edge from the point on my windshield where I hang the detector, around and under the dash, and finally to the female-to-female connector that joins my cable to the stock lighter plug. I plug that into the lighter outlet just head of my shifter and I restrain the extra cable in the passenger footwell net.
Edit No. 2:
I'm happy with my detector performance so far. Plenty of warning for each of my several LEO encounters since buying it.
