Does anyone know where the engine breather filter is located on my 04 530d ?
Tried searching lots but cant find much info, only thats its important to change it, so have a new filter arriving today eager to be fitted.

Im guessing this is just as important a job as it is on the M47 - given the turbo and back pressure problems right ?
Was going to start today and was going to change the air filter and micro filters but dealer has only delivered 1 micro filter rather than the 2 that was ordered.
Still in limbo as to remove the swirl flaps or not while things are in bits i really liking how it drives with them disconnected.

Swirl flaps
Just another thing to worry about now...............so far on my list are.......
Breather Filter
Swirl Flaps
EGR
Auto Trans Problems ( not that I have any - yet )
Buying a newer car was supposed to make me worry less about things, not worry more about new things lol.

carried out the breather filter change, does require removing lots of parts so fitted a new air filter too.
location of filter
a pic of the old filter, and filter cover
a pic of the new improved filter/seperator, which is supposed to improve breathing and not clog. Bmw say a vital upgrade so maybe worth checking for others with this engine.

The reason its so important is because if it becomes clogged up it caused back pressure on the oil system, this in turn forced oil back up the dipstick or past the piston rings causing untold damage, plus damage to the turbo - so a must change, nice post Rob
