Enable Rear Fog Light
#1
I have a 2006 US E60 M5 that I am trying to enable the rear fog light on. I have replaced the headlight switch (see attached), however, the left rear light does not appear to allow the inner brake/rear fog light to illuminate properly (additionally, the dash light does not indicate the rear fog light functionality is present).
The bulb carrier for the left rear light houses a single filament bulb, which illuminates with parking lights. Part numbers for the bulb carrier appear to be the same for both EU and US models.
I was under the impression the inner light functions both as a progressive brake light and as a rear fog light. Does anyone have advise on how to further enable the rear fog light? Is there a code that the dealer must set?

I'm pretty sure you'll need the dealer to enable it. AND even that... North American Cars might not even have all the necessary parts to make it work...

US models dont have rear fog lights??
I just checked my Australian May 2005 E60 530i and the rear fog lights are standard, must be an American requirement not to include them.

I'm not sure that it is as simple as changing a switch for our MOST bus E60/61s in North America. Let's hope it is be that easy, but I suspect that it would entail a non-North America software version. One might be able to do it once, but one might have to forget about conventional Progman upgrades thereafter in the US.
I keep watching and hoping!

Hi! I know I'm coming to this thread kind of late, but I'm interested in doing the rear fog mod on my e60. I just wanted to throw in my two cents about part numbers. Try www.realoem.com. You can get all BMW NA and Euro part numbers there. With your part number you can go right to parts.crownauto.com, enter your part number and order the part you want!

I'm curious whether Mrk was able to enable his rear fog light. I'm military stationed in Belgium and current laws here required all vehicles (even U.S.) to have a rear fog light. I'm very interested in this DIY project, I refuse to hang an extra light from the rear of my E60. Please Help!!!!!!

The European light switch with the rear foglight control is plug-and-play on the US-spec e90 cars but NOT on the e60. I actually did try a Euro light switch in my 530... all functions worked EXCEPT for the rear fog. My only guess is that the lighting control module needs to have the rear foglight function enabled using Progman or whatever the dealers use to program specific control modules. I haven't asked my SA about that yet. I've looked at all of the schematics and part lists, and it looks like the wiring is all there for the rear fogs to work. The "inner" taillights use the same wiring for the brake force display and rear fogs, when enabled.
