Charger is MANDATORY.Wih Winkfpt software update for your gearbox take 5 to 15 minutes,its not a big deal if you update JUST your gearbox software.BIG attention to prerequisites.....

Do I have to have progman installed to do this or can I just use the necessary files.

You actually need a power supply, not a charger (the voltage can vary with a charger). The power supply needs to be 13.9V and capable of supplying at least 40A continuously. Anything less and you take a risk of completely corrupting the module you are programming i.e. new gearbox ECU required.

 

To be honest, this will probably be the only time I do this so I doubt it will be worth buying a power supply. It might be cheaper (and safer) to just get it done at the dealer/specialist.
