As long as you disconnect the battery before you start work, you should not need to get the car coded, as you are not adding or removing any functions, simply changing the mirror housing.

I came across this thread as I was looking for advice on whether anyone had fitted the mirrors that have recently appeared on ebay (Item # 260808116375 or try the link below if I'm allowed to use it .. ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E60-Me...item3cb9600897)
They appear to offer M5 mirrors with power folding and glass position memory, but no-one has left feedback on them yet and I'm not desperate enough to be a guinea pig. Has anyone tried them please ?

These are not the E60 M5 shape so most people have stayed away.
