Just to be clear. The MASK/CCC is built into the CD drive housing and its possible to remove the CD drive without killing the iDrive. All you are doing is removing the CD mechanism and leaving all the MASK/CC electronics intact.

It all depends on how bad things are. The drive in there is no different from any computer drive, so if the problem is minor then you wont need coding because the drive itself do not hold the coded information its the memory in the MASK. But how easy would it be to remove the drive from the MASK leaving the MASK functioning I don't know.
