So I have a transmission leak on my 2005 530i E60 with M54 engine and GA6HP19Z transmission. I found it while removing the underbody panels and it looked like it was towards the rear of the transmission pan. I went to my dealer today to verify and they recommended to replace the oil pan/gasket/filter, mechatronics sleeve, 24 torx screws and some fluid. They quoted:

-Sleeve - $27.05
-24 Torx screws - $3.71each ~ $89.04
-Trans Pan/gasket, o-ring, drain plug - $311.74
-4 1/2 liter fluid - $27.38each ~ $109.52 (They're probably reusing most of the fluid and topping off due to less fluid from leak)

So I was planning to drain and refill the trans fluid and since my car has about 102,000 miles I want to replace the pan anyways. Here are the parts I priced out on rmeuropean:

-Sleeve - $14.75
-24 Torx screws - $1.77each ~ $42.28
-Trans Pan kit/gasket, o-ring, drain plug - $155.06
-6L Pentosin ATF1 fluid - $17.08 each ~ $102.48

So that's about $314.77 and almost 6L of new fluid as opposed to $537.35 worth of parts at the dealer and 3.72 hours worth of labor, so about $1000 total.

I want to DIY it all and was wondering if anyone has replaced the mechatronics sleeve before. I've read around that you have to drop the pan to release the clip for the sleeve and that you can just turn and pull the sleeve out. I just want to confirm that. I attached pictures of the sleeve itself and a picture from the manual on how to remove it but it looks too simple to be true. Hopefully it is just release the clip, turn and pull and replace.DIY Mechatronics Sleeve? Transmission Leak..-24347588725_zf_ce04b7f6.jpgDIY Mechatronics Sleeve? It's true, Can follow DIY thread https://5series.net/forums/topic/881...-drain-refill/

Suggest drop down the exhaust a little bit for easy turn off this clip.

So removing and inserting the sleeve is easy? I read at another forum that the sleeve must be tightened in a certain way to prevent more leaks.

They are OEM. The fluid is Pentosin so not OEM BMW but it still matches the requirements.

Hello guys!
I am trying to do ATF drain and refill. I also have GA 6HP 19Z tranny but Pentosin ATF1 is not recomend for GA 6HP 19Z. They only listed ZF tranny on the bottle.
Can i still use Petosin ATF1 on GA tranny?
Thanks for your advice.

You do have a ZF tranny so you can use the Pentosin ATF1 fluid.

Is it absolutely necessary to drop the transmission Pan/filter if I'm only doing the mechatronics sleeve? This pentosin ATF1 is compatible with my 2004 545i step tranny??

Or what about mobile1 synthetic ATF?
Or royal purple max ATF? Are either compatible?
