Sorry, this is a double post. I'm getting the car back from the dealer tomorrow and would like feedback before it's too late.

Just pulled out the ipod kit from my 2007 530i before returning it to the dealer at the end of my 3 year lease.

I decided to purchase a 2006 550i to replace it and install my old ipod kit.

Followed all the great instructions from here and had it in my car in 30 minutes!

Now here's the problem,

I tried the mp3 cd in the in-dash cd slot and it didn't recognize it. The car didn't have the mp3 option enabled or the CDC option either. I have no NAV.

I took it into the dealer for some other work and asked to have the mp3 and CDC options enabled and they told me that the CDC option worked but the mp3 option can't be enabled since the car needs M-ASK which isn't available on 2006 models!

That doesn't sound right to me. The ipod integration kit is available on pre 2007 models!

I have the kit installed and the CDC option enabled...what am I missing?

The SA is convinced the car needs M-ASK and it's not available on an 06?

What do you guys think?

Since you have no NAV the dealer can not just simply enable MP3 as such "enable" option only available for CCC (NAV equiped) car, car w/o NAV (that uses M-ASK) they have to replace the whole module or at least the physical in-dash CD player w/ the newer model.

So in order for you to have the iPod interface going you have to get the dealer do the enable programming coding.

+1, with your setup you need them to do the coding for the ipod kit. MP3 coding will not work on your non-nav car.

iPod enabling code? So this has nothing to do with the mp3 TSB mentioned in other DIY iPod integration threads where a dealer would update the system to support in-dash mp3 functionality for free under warranty?

Am I asking them to enable the iPod integration kit? If that's the case I should expect them to charge me?

Thanks

cool...I get it now! Is this a big deal? Knowing them I'm sure they'll suggest it's a 4 hour job at $120/hour!!

You don't have a choice if you want your adapter to work.

My dealer charged me 1 hour for enabling my kit, it would be nice for them to be consistent with each other for this type of thing. Cant complain about my local dealer they do their best.

I think that you need a new S/A. My car is a 2006 without the navigation option, which means that it has M-ASK (Multimedia Audio System Controller, or something close to this in German).

Unfortunately on the M-ASK cars you have to have the iPod activated. It basically overwrites the CD-Changer settings. The CCC (Car Control Computer?) cars (with nav) can unplug the CD-Changer and plug in the iPod adapter without any dealer intervention.

Your car should play MP3's right out of the factory. Try using different settings (and maybe media) when you are making the MP3 discs. I use the cd-creator wizard in Windows Vista to create MP3 Cd's. Try this link for more information: MP3 instructions

Ok, now you got me curious, because I was told that even though I do have NAV I would need to go to the dealer to have the ipod adapter activated. I don't have the CD changer, but my car does play MP3's just fine.
