Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I finally bought a 3M lens restoration kit and I'm glad I did, my left headlight especially the eyebrow was really beat up, and this kit made it look really nice!! (Pics to follow)
now I need a 3M clear sticker on the headlight to prevent any further damages since the housing is probably a little thinner.

Do you know where I can buy the 3M clear plastic cover for the lens?

I followed the instructions from the beginning of this thread (used a buffer), but I'm having some issues. First of all I only needed to do the drivers side because the passenger side was recently replaced. Now my mistakes are even more noticeable. Anyways, after completion I still see some small scratches and the lens looks a little foggy. Did I use too much pressure with the 1500 grit or maybe it wasn't wet enough and caused scratches? What could be the cause of the cloudy appearance? Not enough work with the 2000 grit? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Use the 2000 grit for about 20 mins squirting it with a spray bottle and car wash soap.


After the 2000 grit you need to use a buffer and polish to get rid of the fog. It should look nearly brand new if you do this correctly.

 

I did this but took me few hours. You need to wet sand it really really good for long time with deferent sand papers. I started with 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. I used makita rotary buffer with yellow cutting pad and 105 compound followed by 205 finishing polish. For sealing I used Wolfgang 3.0 synthetic sealant.
They really come out clean but there are a few rendom scratches only seeable with good inspection. In order to get read of these screeches you need to spend days sending and sending which trealy is not worth it.I will report back how long they last. I tried plasticX but that stuff is noting but BS

 

Any long term results?? I did mine just with wet sand and meguiars plastic x (no turtle wax) and its been about 2 weeks, they are going back to how they were I am guessing is because I am missing something after the plastic polisher. some people use a clear spray after all is done and they say it gives better results.

 

I redid this and followed up with the 105/205. Much better than the turtle wax scratch remover. Thanks.

I did my headlines with urethane/mineral spirit mixture and I say the results are much, much better than buffing. There are a thread how to do it.
