The headlights have held up thus far, planning on re-doing the sanding again in a couple of months to work out some scratches left. Neither lights have dulled, still looking pretty clean to me.

There is nothing to "disappear". You are polishing away the micro scratches same as on a painted surface.

yep --- most of the work is done by hand removing the gross imperfections but the lens will remain "foggy" until you hit it with a buffer and polish.
