The SAT shifter should work straight away with no programming/coding, sounds like your new SAT shifter ECU is faulty, if you have the INPA or DIS see if it will "read" the GWS module which is the ECU below your SAT shifter.

I've done the full retro-fit with GKE flash, I also fitted an M5 paddle wheel with left-downshift and right-upshift configuration (the wheel loom needs to be modified with resistors to get it to work). Completely different to the non-SAT transmission, with SPORT enabled the manual paddle shifts are lightening fast like DCT and I especially like the manual downshift throttle blip to match the revs.

Many thanks, leew88. It looks & feels like it's faulty, but I'll have a look with INPA before I send it back.

I bought the other (lift either paddle = upshift; thumb either paddle = downshift) steering wheel, with the loom ready to go. Fitting the wheel, and the wee bit of wiring for it, were going to be next, but it sounds like I've got a bit to go with the ECU yet. Thanks again.

Here's an excerpt of the GKE215.ATS file
Code:
;Fahrzeugzuordnung (Auftrags-Steuerdatei) vom 13.11.2009 11:51
;TAIS-Abfragedatum (ab) 26.11.2009
FZG;LA;SA;ZB_NR;SE_VS
NV93;;205;7601460;VS
NW13;;2TB;7601458;VS
NW13;;205;7601460;VS

so after seeing that the sports automatic firmware for the egs is 2TB I realized in those excerpts the first thing is the production code followed by the type of firmware followed by the zb number. I went on realoem.com and found out the production code for my car was nw53 so I opened all the ats files in all the gke folders in my data folder on my computer until I came to gke195 and saw these 2 listings non of any of the other gke folders had entries for nw53 so I assume gke 195 must be my ecu family

NW53;;2TB;7592142;SE
NW53;;205;7592146;SE

being how 2tb is the sports automatic firmware is it safe for me to assume that I should flash the car with the firmware listed under ecu family gke195 and zb number 7592142
reading this entire thread made me think i needed to have ista/p to tell me the proper firmware I'm not too sure the method I came about it is 100% should I proceed with the flash? anyone have thoughts?

How do you find this information?

I have a 2008 550i no sport button. I bought a steering wheel from a 2008 650i with paddle shifters the paddle shifters without the +\-. The steering where is installed and I took it to the Charlotte NC BMW dealer and after a week of trying they told me it was not a possible mod to get my paddle shifters to work. Any suggestions?

There's no other way then to spend $500 with motive nods? no BMW dealership can do it?

I think every other post on this forum proves that motive mods is unnecessary if you're willing to do a little work or find a better dealer.

I suggest:
- Make sure your car has the wiring from SZL to ebox (if it's not a wagon, it should)
- Flash your transmission to sport FW (not sure if it's necessary, but worth it anyway)
- Code the paddles option on

If you have any issues:
- Test the signals at your ebox connector per the SIB. I'll link to it again if I can find it later.
- If you don't see the correct voltage levels, remove the wheel and check the resistance at your paddle shifters for correct values when they're actuated.

PRE LCI/Easy
LCI/No

We are on the same boat, i will buy a M5 steering wheel with heated option so i don't have to get rid of it $535 + $500 for motivemod kit.

If u find a way to do it with out paying the $500 let me know.

I don't think a dealer would help you retrofit anything that needs rewiring, correct me if I'm wrong.

Please, both of you read this entire thread (or just my post immediately above this reply), and you will see that this is possible without the MotiveMods hardware.

I outlined step-by-step (and there are only 3!) exactly what you'd need to do to get the paddles working.

I have an LCI wagon, and I even had to pull two extra wires, but my paddle shifters work without any aftermarket hardware.
