Rudy,

Thanks very much - very useful - I had resisted pulling and poking at it until I get the new mirror - with these instructions it looks like a much easier job!

cheers

Rudy,

success and another problem!!

the guide was great - took only 5 mins to swop with the clear instructions so thanks!!!

BUT...

i bought the mirror off ebay - ?40 and perfect fit...

however my old mirror had only 2 wires running into it (for the red alarm light) and the new mirror has about a dozen !!!

- silly me thinking that a auto dipping mirror would only need a 12v feed.. looks like it needs all sorts of control wires - probably linked to headlights, computor, nasa, local stock market etc....

Does anybody have a wiring diagram or the part number for the piece of the harness - i cant believe its a completely different wiring harness !!

its either that or I get out my soldering iron!!

cheers
Dave

Hi Dave

If the DIY doesn't work out, I have defintely seen the dipping mirror with compass in the UK e60 accessories brochure. So at least BMW could do it for you. For ??? obviously.

Thats a cheap retrofit.

P.S. I see in your signature that you want an 840ci. I used to have one. It was a sport model estoril blue. Full individual silver leather.

Be sure and get a cover for your new baby that sits out in the cold all night.

There called Pentagon Glasstech. They do tints and in-car entertainment. All kahn vehicles are done by them. Go to www.kahndesign.com Check there cars out!!!

I bought my wheels from kahn and got the tints done from them so there giving me abit of a discount.

2x 6.5" widescreen screens, DVD changer and PS2 for ?1500. But im thinking of getting a Tv tuner aswell.

I'll see what I can find as far as wiring scematics but my bet is that many of those wires are used to send a dimming signal to the outside mirrors (which you don't have).

I'm thinking that the rear-view mirror should be able to dim itself with 12V power since the sensors are self-contained in the unit...

That's right.
Now he only needs to know which cables are used for the 12V hook up.

Welcome to the forum. Is an "auto dipping" interior mirror one that dims automatically when headlights shine on it? Is bl**dy that much of a swear word in England? Is so, what is somebody that has blood all over them called? I really need to get out more. I am curious, not being a smart a**. I do know that the retro fit auto dimming mirror takes away the garage door opener in our standard mirrors. Once again, welcome.

Hahah you want to hear how the word bloody is used in contex? Listen to this... its not bad... its from a Radio Station. but its funny.
