Anyone has instructions for coolant change for 2008 535i (N54 engine)?

 

I'd recommend replacing the upper crossover hose at the same time as they tend to break when you touch them. Last thing you need is to be caught on a weekend with a broken hose (the plastic breaks) and no place to purchase a replacement. Which is what happen to me. I ended up Jerry rigging it to work for the weekend.

 

hi guys, i have a pin hole size leak at the vent pipe. looking at the picture above and confirming it at myoem it appears to be the "vent pipe". I fiddled around with the middle section (where the leak was at) and ended up making it worse. now i'm bleeding...which sucks since i have to use the other car to goto work and also to buy the vent pipe. i was wondering if the whole highlighted part (picture above this post) comes in one piece? and would i have to also buy the hose clamp which looks like it will go to the end of the hose on the right side.

also will i need to flush the fluid?

 

The item is one piece. I bandage mine for the time being until I got a replacement by just going to the hardware store and getting a copper pipe to replace the plastic piece as i think mine broke just prior to a holiday weekend.

 

My water pump was replaced recently with fresh coolant, but the thermostat was not. Now I am fairly certain I need a thermostat as the car is not warming up correctly.

I am going to attempt to do this without raising the car by siphoning or pumping out enough coolant to replace the thermostat. I assume i only need to remove a small portion of the coolant. Any comments?

 

Is this the same procedure to replace the thermostat on a 2005 525i?

And is this the same procedure to flush the coolant on a 525i?

Also, I read on a, i believe an older BMW forum, something about letting the coolant system bleed for 2 periods of 12 minutes. Does this not apply to the e60's?

 

I perform this procedure on my 525I and it went fine.

I think, the procedure of coolant drain and refill, depends on the engine model. No one can say if this procedure fits your 525i or not without your engine model. Rizbel is an expert, he felt easy after a lot of study. But no easy for a new comer like me. Especially for that part of underneath engine block coolant drain. According to other member here , damage tends to occur eaven we touch it with great care. At the same time, there must be a crush washer behind the drain plug, and a new washer should be ready to replace the old one before the drain project. but what size is the washer? Have we thought about it? more info needed, thanks for more detailed information.
