I just did this DIY and there is a way to get the black cover off without the dremel... I will post a DIY soon with lots of pics. What this doesn't tell you is that the comfort headrest WILL NOT lay flush with the seat. The comfort headrest WILL sit 2 inches off the sport seat at the fully lowered position.
Very easy DIY
Post up Matt, I'm curious on how you removed it without the dremel.
Good to know that it sits 2" off the sport seat at its lowest position.
What's keeping it from sitting flush?

Very nice job! Has anyone tried taking the headrests off of an older 5 series for this? I actually like the look of the older version as opposed the new ones posted here.

Hello, I know this is an older post, but since I have a new vehicle I was searching on doing this mod as well. Question? If the new comfort seat headrest leg post are wider then the original, how do you get them to fit into the rising mechanism of the seat? Please reply......

Hello

I was also thinking about changing those horrible standard for the "comfort" front headrests, but I am in trouble:

the picture shown in catalog part is not the same headrest as the pillow-like comfort one :
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E6...eadrest_front/

Is it a mistake or a generic picture on the web site or did the original pillow-like headrest were changed (name is multi-purpose headrest... is this the comfort headrest) ??

The reference for my car seems to be 52 10 7 114 423 (gray leather).

Thanks for your help.

Hi

The diagram is generic. Your right on track!
Nice Thanks.

For European guys, I managed to get retail prices in France:
- one headrest (52 10 7 114 423) is 163? ex VAT
- 2 "platic bars" (52 10 7 110 621) are sold 5.54? ex VAT

So total mod would cost near from 400? including VAT in France.

Is any of you able to get hands on those headrests for less ?? If yes, I'm interested

Oh one other thing, I think I don't like you. Now I want to do this mod! Thanks pal!
Sorry for this ;P

Hi !

I think I'll order today the parts and give a try to this upgrade.
I just ordered I also ordered the extra plastic pieces displayed in the ETK, just to be sure that nothing will be missing.

I do not expect to provide your feedback before at least one month considering upcoming holidays & part unavailability

I'd be happy to read how matt0462 did to remove the plastic cover without a dremel...

Regards
Matt
