Just don't try to save some bucks by buying one off the cheap china clones, afterwards you will end up paying more.
Read the sticky's on bmwcoding and all will be OK.

I am so glad I searched on something as dumb as "battery replacement"!

San Diego BMW quoted $545 for a new battery on my 07 550i...and by the time you figure out the battery is about shot, the average person is desperate to just get it taken care of!

I do most, if not all, of the work on my car but "registering" the battery, as the SA warned me about, was a little intimidating.

I've now learned I can buy 4 (or more) after market batteries for that and not worry about registering the battery, or I can learn how to use the coding techniques and tools and spring for the good cable and still save money.

You guys rock!

If there is anybody in San Diego that has done this, I'd love to pick your brain to make sure I do the coding/registering correctly...

Regards,

John

I just learned to reset IBS and charging histograms using IPNA. It took me a while to figure out how to do the very first step of coding. The instruction in bmwcoding.com as not very details. Some steps were missing that I could not make IPNA to connect. After reading another instruction (updated version of the original coding instruction from bmwcoding.com), IPNA connected to my car immediately. I could then reset IBS system and reset charging histograms.

I changed my battery with the same spec. from Interstate. According to this forum, I don't need to change the battery parameter in car's database, just needed to reset IBS.

I got my K+DCAN IPNA compatible cable last year from ebay. It was about $100 and came with an adapter for using in older ODB 16 pins connector. The pin 8 of my cable is missing. This is the correct type of cable for our car.

Thanks,

If the car is build before 03/2007 than pin 7 & 8 should be bridged for the double K-line to work, otherwise you don't have full coding access to all the modules.

Hi, did you mean that pin 7 and pin 8 should be "connected" together to program car build before 3/2007 ? However, my cable's pin 8 is missing. When I plug the cable into OBD port, how does pin 8 works then ??

Thanks,
