I searched the forum and couldn't find anything like this.
Every time I press the brake pedal (while the car is moving) there is a loud click from the front of the car. It only does it one time per braking. No noise when I let off the brake.
I think it something needs to be lubricated in the front end, but not really sure. I was hoping someone could help. Thanks in advance.

What year ? # miles ? Any recent brake or suspension repairs ?

If not a brake pad fitment (pads loose in the caliper / anti-rattle shims not installed) issue another source of a clicking sound when braking is worn control arm bushings.

The worn control arm bushing should be the culprit based on the sound.

It's a 2005 545i with 77k.

No recent repairs. The brakes have been maintained.

Thanks for the reply

i had this same problem right after i took my car in for service at the stealers... i never had the clanking before, and when i was gettin my car back, my SA told me the control arm bushings were cracked and that they would fix it for $800 i think they're like $100 for the parts!! anyways, it clanked for a week or so and eventually went away... i'm still convinced the stealers had something to do with it as i have no warranty and they have a huge smile on their faces every time i take the car there hopefully your's is just a "phase" as well...

but either way, check the bushing, if they're the culprits, look for an independent shop to fix em cuz $800 is highway robbery IMHO

Thanks! I'll take it to my independent shop and have them check it out before I buy any parts. I appreciate the advice!

This happened to me on an older 5 series. It scared the crap out of me because it was such a loud bang every time I broke. The harder I broke at higher speeds the louder the bang. An engine mount had cracked and broken so everytime I broke the engine would bang off the chassis. Costed ?130 including labour.
