Hi all

Here a littel picture serie of how to change/re-store the rear brakes on a BMW E60/61 525IA ( prod. date 12/2003 ) , but I think it is "allmost" the same for the most E6x's ( in princip )

If one choose to work on the brakes of ther car , he/she must be skilled for this job , due to it is a safty part of the car , and following the picture serie in order to do this job your self , doing this is on one's own risc !

But her you go , have fun

These are great photos, thanks for taking the time to create this post. The results are really nice looking.

Once suggestion: It would be best to hang the caliper with wire as opposed to letting it hang on the brake line.

Perfect DYI and photos,
as I need to do it myself soon I have a lot of questions:

did you paint it brake disks also? Or they just look like painted? Or did they come painted? Did you use OEM, or aftermarket - any recommendation?

thx

Hi

The Brakedisc's did come so , they are OEM BMW brakedisc's , and I'l hardly recomend OEM , I have in the paste had a lot of "bad" experience with non OEM disc's ( front and rear ).

Regards

Did you replace the brake sensor?

Hi Southgate

The brake-sensors had not "touched" the brakedisc's , so the "old" one could still be used

Great pictures and instruction. One question though, did you release the hand brake (parking brake) screw under the hand rest first before taking the rear brake rotor off ? From my experience with Volvo, you have to unscrew (lose) that screw to release the parking brake shoes along with the star wheels inside the rear brake rotor. Then rear brake rotor will come off easier.
