Nice video Nick! I like the disclaimers.

Was that your kid/supervisor I heard doing color commentary in the background?
No, I did not realize it until I was putting together the video. It was the neighbors kid playing basically in my front yard. His mom was a bit spooked when I came out of the garage all dirty with my rubber glove on.

Awesome video nickolas_g! Thanks for reminding me why I stopped changing my own oil many, many, years ago!

Hey, I need to ask an important question...since I'm in the credits, will I have an official "Kevin Bacon number" now?

Oh yeah, and thanks for using the proper pouring technique and calling special attention to it -- when it comes to using highly sophisticated and highly engineered products as they were designed to be used, the world needs more information ambassadors like you to help spread the word...

Don't feel tied to the place you bought the car, call around and see what the others are selling their parts for, you'll be shocked how prices can vary.
BTW update your profile.....helps when answering questions.

3 - Also, does anyone else have the problem of when the oil is draining out of the engine, it comes out with such pressure, that it actually makes slight contact with the undercarriage cover that surrounds the drain plug area...causing a big mess! I might need to trim about 1/2 inch off that covering piece, but I think it's metal just under the cover.
Thoughts??
Did my first oil change today @ 1700 Miles (Wanted to purge the break-in oil)

And YES - When the drain plug came out, the draining oil caught on the edge of the undercarriage cover and made a real mess. Clearly BMW did not design the opening to accomodate draining the oil with the front of the car elevated on jack stands or ramps. Perhaps it drains more cleanly if the car is level on a rack. I will try to fabricate a small deflector to prevent this mess next time.

Aside from this issue, the oil change was a snap - did it in about 30 minutes (excluding cleaning up the undercarriage mess and garage floor). I purchased a filter housing cap socket to make removal of the filter cap easy. And I ordered OEM filters online for about $9 and picked up German Castrol Synthetic for about $6.50 a quart at AutoZone. So it cost about $55 excluding the filter cap wrench (a one-time investment).

Great how-to, did an oil change this weekend.

For those that use a ramp for elevating their car for the oil change - did you notice any issues with all of the oil not draining? I just jacked up the car and slid under it, which is okay, but cramped since the car sits so low to the ground.

I'd like to use ramps, but I'm concerned all of the oil won't drain out.

Thanks,
Mike

I have a question. Phil, were did you place the jack after rasing the car?
