Hi all,

I have a problem with the finish on the center console trim on my '07 530xi (wood trim surrounding gear shift). The dealer has agreed to replace the trim piece, but says they need 2-3 hours to do the job. This has got me worried about the dealer creating new problems while solving the old one. Although the defect is noticable (fine scratches under the clearcoat finish) I would rather have this admittedly slight defect than a gaggle of squeeks or poor fit on the new piece.

Has anybody had this piece replaced or done it themselves? Is it really that big a job and what is the risk factor for creating new problems as a result?

Thanks.

Takes about 15 mins to take it off and put it back on again. It is a really easy job.

2-3 hours!!!

I agree no more. My paddle shift kit has instruction removing this center wood piece, too. Am I right, gIzzE?

There are plenty of people who have done trim replacements but if the dealer is going to do it under warranty, I'd let them do it. It's likely that they'll do as good a job as the next guy and if there are issues with rattles, etc, (which is unlikely to happen on this type of job) you can keep taking it back there until they get it right.

OT: hey gIzzE, your avatar set off the privacy alert in IE -- the site where the picture lives is trying to dump a cookie on me but doesn't have a privacy policy. In case you're confused, I'm getting the following message resulting from the URL of your avatar picture of the dog (Jake?):

What you could do to solve the problem is upload the avatar from your computer to the forum software instead of using a URL to link it to an image online.

What's happening is that the "btconnect.com" site that your avatar is currently on is trying to force down a cookie to our browser every time your avatar is displayed. My security settings are flagging that attempt to push the cookie so I'm getting the warning I posted earlier...

Thanks Rudy, I thought I had uploaded from my PC, that is why I was a little confused.

Changed it over now!
