Too bad our gov't thinks we can't handle such responsibility
Contrary to my post above, the decision to not allow this feature was BMW's, not the government's.

Either way, it's pretty sad that we're not worthy enough to have this feature...

No the US is not worthy enough for this option. You can thank every stupid lawsuit which was clearly the fault of the dumbass who caused it and the lawyer who felt the dumbass was wronged....... Just imagine.... A lady leaves her purse in the car and begins to walk away from her car. She notices that the window is down, she holds down the lock button and the windows begin to close. A thief is walking buy and attempts to steal the purse but gets his arm caught in the window being closed by remote. The thief hires a lawyer and he claims that this client was wronged bla bla bla and the dumb ass thief gets like 100k for what happened to him..... hahahahahahah

But, HEY, we are making progress. Years ago we did not have the ability to close the windows with the one-touch-up on the power window button. We had to hold the button until the window was all the way up. Maybe in another 10 years or so we will be able to close the windows using the remote buttons on the key like the rest of the world.
