#1
Greetings,
i would like to know what is the best type of oil(brand and grade) for hot climates.
I am in Jamaica and the temp rarely drops below 75 degree farenheit.
Please let me hear your various recommendations.
the car is a 2006 525i.

BMW recommends BMW oil 5W-30 or Mobil 1 which is on my oil filler cap so I assume that they are the same, however Valvoline SYNPOWER claims to have 4x better wear protection then Mobil 1.

In my former 530d (Filler cap said Castrol) I used Valvoline synpower and the engine ran noticably quieter with this oil compared to BMW original 5w-30
Btw, I change oil two additional times within regular oil service periods. Once every 10000km, and I buy BMW orginal 5w-30 from www.mapodo.de (Probably not interesting for US, I assume you get it cheaper local)

In any event look for "Meets or exceeds BMW LL98/01" spec on the back of the oil bottle to be sure. I think Castrol Syntec 0W30 meets this spec as does Mobil 1 5W40, Mobil 1 5w30 does not meet this spec. I know the grades are different but as long as the BMW requirement is met (ie BMW LL98/01), then there will be no issues.

Anyone try Royal Purple? I've used it in my other cars......good stuff. I've never done it in my other cars, but they claim you only have to change the oil once a year or 12k miles as long as you change the filter and top off every 3000-4000 miles
