For the benefit of newbies and oldies who cannot find posts relevant to this regularly asked question (since the search function seems to be rather perfunctory),I attach a PDF file listing BMW Approved LL-01 Synthetic Engine Oils for the USA as of January 2008.
For non-USA regions,the required specification is BMW LL-04.I have previously detailed brands other than BMW and Castrol which are BMW approved ,see :-
