Hello

I live in France and own a E61 serie of mid-2005 with GPS professionnal and without bluetooth not auxiliary audio input.

I plan to install by myself a Parrot mki9200.

Does anybody already did this work on his E60 or E61 and took pictures of the full work to help me ?

Thanks and Regards

Matthieu

I had the Parrot Mki9200 fitted after Christmas.
I bought the SOT lead from Parrot but some wire cutting was still required which I was comfortable doing.
It cost me £45 to have it professionally fitted.
Its worth paying a professional to do it as it might save you damaging your interior and your finger ends.

The Parrot works quite well, my iPhone works great with it and I also use a USB stick and SD card for the music side of things.
I think the screen would be better if it switched itself off after 5 seconds like an iPod does and the interface is nowhere near as good as an iPod but it is useable.

If you want to install it yourself you will need to remove the interior trim that runs from the passenger side to the steering wheel (3 air vent section) Disconnect the hazards warning light switch.
Unscrew the radio cover (two screws) then carefully prise off the radio cover and lower panel (where you sat nav will be) you should then be able to remove the head unit (two screws).

There isnt much room behind the head unit and the route to the glove box is difficult. I imagine it will be even worse with the dvd sat nav unit.

Hello

thanks for your comprehensive answer...
Parrot screen never put itself off ? What about the GPS sound, from what I already read, navigation sound is lost, right ?

Final answer: you tell that something is routed to glove box... could you explain why ? I guess that the screen unit can only be taken out near iDrive in center console, either than putting it out from glovebox, no ?

Hello Matt,

The Parrot screen stays on all the time (when the ignition is on anyway). I tried setting the brightness to zero but it still stays on.

I dont have the BMW GPS so I dont know for definate, however when the Parrot is playing music I dont get the beeps from the parking sensors when parking, I have to pause the Parrot for the beeps to come through the cars speakers. I would imagine it would be the same for the GPS.

I have the USB input, aux input and Ipod cable routed to the glove box so that it is out of sight.
You could put the cables where you want but I wanted them out of sight.

The screen can be placed where you want (as long as the cable reaches), mine is placed between the idrive screen and the steering wheel.
The screen is removable when not in use.

You will also need to route the microphone to a suitable location, mine is positioned next to the light above the rear view mirror.

Hi

thanks for your reply... I'll try to have a look to this.

Here in France, the Parrot is 199? + 26? of specific cable and there's asking 100? for mount... that's why I'm thinking to mount it by myself.

That's a shame that the screen remains on... That's surpising that there's no way to turn it off even manually...

Regards
Matt
