Do I need the V29.1 software upgrade to run the 2007-2 Europe Map.

I have a 2006 3 series M Sport with Pro Navigation.
No you do not.

If I insert the 2007-2 Disk I get "New Software DVD, shut down and restart after 5 minutes"

Stupid question, but how do you do that, or is this 2007-2 not compatible, 2006-1 came with car.
You just need to turn off the ignition completely and do exactly what it says and leave it switched off for at least 5 minutes before restarting the car. I'm guessing that when the ignition is switched on some data specific to the nav dvd in the slot is pre-loaded off the dvd which remains in 'memory' for a short while once the ignition is turned off. After 5 minutes has passed that data is no longer retained and will be read of the dvd again the next time the ignition is turned on.

I got exactly the same message when switching from 2007-1 to 2007-2. I just switched the car off, went back inside and had a cup of coffee and then when I restarted the car later the 2007-2 just worked as normal.

Hi Tiger75, Mathmos,

Tiger75 : my favorites adresses have been lost after the update (I don't know my current CIP version - updated end of march 2007).

Mathmos : I've got a problem with the cygwin/perl step.

I installed cygwin (including perl) to c:\cygwin.
But now I'm lost.
I must confess that I'm not confortable using command lines, but I will learn.
I suppose that to enter a command you use the execute function in the Windows start menu ?
The "c:\cygwin\bin\perl -v" command line doesn't work (no screen is displayed as shown by the method)

Where do you install/put the perl script?
Where do you put the .asc file to be converted?
How do you exactly enter the command line to run the script and produce the .idx and .url files?

Frustrating since it was doing very well so far, with some minor modifications dues, I suppose, to the french .isc file (TPD-CAT for Travels is 10004 which changes the TPD-GRP modification, also the SA line seems to be different)

Sorry for all these questions that must seem stupid, but modifying my satnav dvd is also a way to improve my poor knowledge of informatic.

By the way i'm using the ISO method.

Regards,

For some reason I lost my post !!!!

Here it is again.

I had an interesting chat with my BMW dealership today, regarding the Navteq 2007-2 DVD.

What they have told me is, only the BMW 2007-2 will work in my 3 Series June 2006, with iDrive and the Pro Navigation, Navteq 2007-2 will NOT work.

They say that if I try and use a Navteq 2007-2 in my model it will not work unless the car is recoded at a cost of ?200, however they say the BMW 2007-2 will work straight out of the box.

They have advised I send the original back to Navteq and ask for a refund.
I did not tell them about the mod.

I have emailed Navteq and asked if this is true.

The problem is I did not have the original in the first place.

Has anyone else found this, I do not trust the dealerships one bit.

The modded dvd I have is a Navteq 2007-2, and the dealership told me to send it
If this is true, there must be information on the BMW DVD which the iDrive looks for on boot-up, it it's not there it will give a dvd read error.

It seems my choices now are, 1) Recode at ?200, then use my mod, 2) Buy BMW 2007-2 GB/Ireland form dealership ?256 inc vat, then do new mod.

The dealer added that if for some reason the BMW 2007-2 did not work in my vehicle, then they would recode free.

Can any member shed some light on the issue, is this true or not.

Steve.

Hellooo,
Anybody here ?

I'm still traped with the .asc --> .idx and .url conversion.

I tried to do a dvd using .idx and .url files created by someone else, but it's not working.
The dvd is working all right, the speed camera item appears in the travel menu, but none of them are found.

Can't find where the problem is!
Frustrating !

Any idea ?

Thanks,

Hi, Everyone
I have the new 335i cab with gps pro and dvd 2007-2 (CD_5956)
I have found fews differences between 2006-2 and 2007-2 and i have changed the following instructions :

TPD-GRP 10004 7383 7395 9000 7379 7352 11010 7384 7316 9108 7366 7312
SA 9000 10004 10007
TPD-SEV 9000 INDEX_TABLE=TABLES/0/0101.IDX?URL_TABLE=TABLES/0/0102.URL
# 9101

The others instructions are as 2006-2

The modified dvd works fine and the speed cameras are inside the system BUT NEVER VISUALISED ON THE SCREEN.

Can you help me
Thanks

Sounds like typical BMW business talk to me. I had the same sort of problem. All it turned out to be was BMW didn't want to do some work on my car for without charging me for it.
At the end of the day, there is only one navigation system, and they use the same DVD's. Sounds like there maybe a program error with your car.
Any chance of posting a picture of your original DVD up - just like to see if its different to mine.

Had an email from Navteq.

They have said " If the system is CD based then the Navteq 2007-2 will work, however if it's DVD based then it must be obtained from BMW.

Well that cleared that up.

Had a letter today from BMW offering 2007-2 for ?99, with an exchange of the original supplied with car (2006-1).
That's a lot better than the ?250 quoted before.

I think this may well be the case, however it's strange how my 2006-1 mod worked ok.
I am going to try a 2007-2 Non Modded, however it is still a back-up version and see what happens with that.
Still have not given up.
