Hello guys and gals and thank you for answering my post. I have a silver 545i with nav but no sirius prep and want to add an aftermarket indash dvd receiver from alpine, the one in particular iam looking at is a dva-9860. I plan on installing it under the factory cd area and dvd area right above the dsc controls.

My question though is this possible to do, my scenario is that I want to run the alpine off the factory setup and still have the idrive function as normal as well. I am not looking to see the dvd thru the i drive, becuase i want to add screens in the headrests for the kiddies to watch and the back passengers as well.

If anyone has had any luck with doing this I would appreciate your help on guiding me on how to do it. My goal is to have the sirus and dvd to work seperately off the idrive and still have the nav and bluetooth work as normal thru my idrive.

Thanks

You will not be able to use this area, it is my understanding that the CCC unit (The nav and sound system brain) is right behind that panel. If you did not have NAV, then you could use it.

If you are only wanting to play the DVD's on the rear screens, why fit an in dash unit? I would either go for a boot mounted DVD multichanger, or something like this; http://www.invisionindustries.com/products.html

Russ I like that idea, but actually I want to add the indash so I can have sirius and a dvd head unit and use the audio thru the factory speakers, is this possible to do?

u can still play dvd through factory speakers if you have aux input retrofitted...i went for different route, adding video interface(to be specific, gnet interface) and added a dvd changer in the boot...(its a panasonic 8 disc dvd changer)...so far, everything is fine, and on top of that it looks like factory installed...
