OK here goes:-

This DIY is for pre-LCI cars, the LCI panel is wired slightly different.


Parts needed :-

AC control panel high (IHKA)
Socket housing black, 2 pol 61131378108 x1
Snap in receptacle 61131376204 x2
Universal socket housing uncoded, 26 pol 61136913626 x1
Covering cap blue 61136913644 x1
Solar sensor 64116944017 x1
Bushing contact 64116944017 x4

Before you start you need determine where the basic panel gets its power.
According to the WDS for cars upto sept/2005 the power is at fuse 26 front fuse box
For cars after sep/2005 the fuse is at fuse 57 rear fuse box, the basic has a 7.5 amp fuse and the high has a 15 amp fuse.
Disconnect the battery before starting.

Dismantle the dashboard :-
Remove the dashboard I-strip, undo the two screws securing the IHKA cover panel, use some slight force to pull panel out of its clips.
Disconnect the two black plugs from the AC panel and put panel to one side.

New pin assignments :-

The basic AC has two plugs :- X01130 12 pins and X18793 18 pins.
The High AC has three plugs :- X01130 12 pins, X13765 2 pins and X1527 26 pins
Carefully prise out the plug from the cover cap of X01130 (12 pins, left hand plug) and swap pin 1 to pin 2..
Carefully prise out the plug from the cover cap of X18793 (18 pins, right hand plug).
Follow this next list to assign the pins to the 26 pin socket contact :-

For the solar sensor connect :-
Sensor X1527

After this is all done, you should have two pins left, these are power and ground (1 red, 1 brown).
Cut off the pins and add around 6 inch of red and brown cable to each, fit the snap in receptacles to the new cables and snap in the red to pin 1 of the 2 pin connector and the brown to pin 2.
Now for the fun part, connect the new connectors to the new high panel and put a 15 amp fuse in to replace the basic 7.5 amp fuse and re-connect the battery.
Switch the car on and the panel should light up, now the car will need coding for SA534 automatic air-conditioning.

Blood you need to change the the part number for the bushing contact as it is the same part number for a solar sensor.

Sas i do believe so, its very subtle how it changes the temps and you don`t really notice but the interior feels more comfortable.

So what is the part number for the bushing contact? as you have put the same part number down for the solar sensor.

You only need these if doing the solar sensor.

Hi Blood,

so glad you posted this i always wanted to do this but thought it could not be done, can i ask you a couple of what is proberly stupid questions.

i have the 2006 E60 with basic air con controls i.e. three knobs no indidual temp controls for driver and passanger, so can i still do your Mod.

Secondly what is the solar sensors and where do they go.

and if i buy a cable can i program the coding myself using NCS Expert.

One last one i notice you have done the CIC Controller is this for the CIC or the CCC if its the CCC does it function ok with it how did you do it.

I have not done the CIC contoller, I have an LCI CCC (no haptic feedback) controller. The solar sensor sits next to the centre speaker grill and reads the heat out put from the sun and sends the data to the control panel.
Yes that's the only way you can do this kind of retrofit.

Hello I am new to this forum and following this subject with great interest. I own a E61 525dA model year 2007 pre LCI.
It has the basic IHKA

I am from belgium So would like to set it for LHD. Meaning the left button should control the Temp.

If i am not mistaken the difference is :

- Leave X01130 like it is, so don't swap pin 1 to 2.

- Move pin 12 X18793 to pin 16 X1527

Could you confirm this ?



Also there is one litle mistake :
pin 14 of X1527 is used twice . It should be (i think) move pin 14 X18793 to pin 19 X1527

So i would look like this :

This whole forum is amazing. learned a lot from it. Like why my right reverce light is working, yep the tailgate cable problem as hit me also.
Going to open it up and change as much of the wirring as possibel.
