I have a 2008 550i and I bought a sealer and a polish from chemical guys, but now in some of the posts I am reading some of you say that the car needs to be clayed before waxing. What is that process? Where do i get the clay and how is it applied?

How old is your 2008? If it's brand new, no need to clay. Claying removes oxidation from the surface of the car, leaving the car soft and smooth to the touch. I clay every 6 months. Good choice b/t/w for using CG products. They make outstanding stuff.

My car is about 6 months old. Where do you get the clay and how do you apply it. My daughter 2003 325i has alot of oxidation from neglect and I eould like to get it looking good. It sounds like using the clay before the sealer and wax is what I need to do, but I have no idea wha the process intails. Also how do I get my cars description and pictures to show up in my posts like I see alot of you have?

There are a few kits out there that have clay bars. Make sure you are careful on this process. It is the best but you also can scratch your car pretty easily if you don't know what you are doing.

You can buy the Meguiars or Mothers clay kits readily at most auto part stores. Use the lubricant spray provided in the kit, and spray as you clay. If the clay starts to stick, you need more lube. The lube isn't much more than a detailing type mist spray.

You will amazed by the results. I kept saying, "Holy s&#t!" every time I'd feel how smooooooth my car was after. Initially, you will think it's not doing much, until you wipe off the excess lube and feel the paint.

Basically, claying involves sliding a bar of special clay across the paint. The clay acts as a mild abrasive, cleaning the surface. More importantly, it cleanly removes large particles embedded in the car's paint, as I understand it.

Some quick google searches will unearth the proper technique.

Make sure you use plenty of lube when you claying, and small section at a time. Megs clay kit and sonus green clay are great

Here's a simple claying guide:

I just got through claying my wife's lexus sc430. It was a quick simple process because the car is so small. Thanjs for all the good info.

So, How'd it turn out? I am curious as to your initial reaction with the whole process.

I couldn't stop telling people about claying after I did mine this past Summer....it's awesome!
