Too bad the CF mirror covers aren't to your liking. But in the future, surface prep for a small area is easily handled with alcohol prep wipes - get them at any drugstore. Or just use some rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Diluted Dawn or other dish detergent will remove wax but may leave some soap behind and make the stick of double sided tape a bit unpredictable. On the more expensive side are 3M surface prep products (NOT PAINT REMOVERS) - basically will strip away anything on the paint surface.

Last tip, I saw you're in Florida so temperature is more likely to be warmer. Otherwise find a warm place to do your sticking - cold temps and any double sided tape will be problematic.
