I have been keeping my 172 wheels clean using several devices and lots of elbow grease but I've noticed that the brake dust and streaking has been getting a little more difficult to get off so I decided to spend a little more time and use a cleaner and wax to protect the wheels. I used Mequiars Cleaner Wax to make sure all marks were removed then put a coat of Mequiars NXT synthetic wax on.I used these products because they don't leave any white residue to clean off the tires. The wheels look factory new again. I hope this helps with the dust build up and streaks that seem to form. I'll keep you posted.

ps, what is the difference with wheel wax that I hear about ? Thanks !

Cheers

No pix??? Before and After?

I'm thinking of Rejex'ing my wheels. I too, am encountering brake dust that is settling into the edges of my wheels and it's not coming out as easily as it used to.

From what I've read about Rejex it would be brilliant on wheels, I tried to find it here but no luck. These friggin wheels are a biatch to keep clean . I hope this helps !

I've Rejex'd my CSL wheels quite a few times, and it works great, to a point. It wears off like everything else, so I'm not sure it's necessarily better than wax, but it does work well. I can use TurtleWax Platinum Wheel Cleaner, and the dust and junk comes right off without touching the wheels. But, as I said, that only works for about a month...and then it's time to Rejex again.

Three words: aftermarket brake pads. I know it's hard to swallow when BMW replaces those soft grippy pads for free under warranty, but it's a godsend for keeping your wheels clean.

I just got a set of Redstuff. Nicke60gre has got them on his car and noticed a drop in brake dust. Gonna give them a try - plus they're great perfromers. I heard good things from Pagid pads as well...
I Rejex my rims as well, so this should be a good combo in the fight against brake dust !

The first mod for me in the first week of my 550 ownership was to replace the factory brake pads with AXXIS brake pads. I had the same brake dust problem on my 03 Range Rover which uses BMW brakes. I am completely anal about the cleanliness of my cars and the brake dusting problem is ridiculous on BMW's. I replaced both vehicles pads with the AXXIS brake pads which has virtually eliminated all brake dust. I purchased the pads from Zeckhausen Racing, they do big brake kits on all sorts of high end vehicles. The owner is very knowledgeable and reputable. He also warned of other low dusting brake pads causing premature wear on other components. By the way, I am in no way affiliated with Zeckhausen Racing, just impressed with the knowledge and service they provided.

This is worthy of a new thread ! I've read so much lately about aftermarket pads now that
I'm getting confused..... I'll post something specific shortly ...

I personally use Porterfield, but I'm sure all the other brands out there like AXXIS and EBC work just as good. The reason aftermarket pads have less dust is because they use a harder composite compound. You sacrifice a little braking power for less dust, but I have not observed any noticeable difference. BMW brake pads throw a lot of dust, but they sure do bite well!
