Hello!
Car:
Yesterday I polished this silver grey 1997 Volvo V70 wagon. Nice and easy color to maintain, but maybe not so flashy. The session was quite quick and I didn't use much time for taking pictures, sorry.
Scratches and clearcoat:
For being 15 years old the paint was in extremely good shape. Only light swirling and very few deeper scratches. Sure the silver color hides them well, but I couldn't find many even with the LED light. The car wasn't resprayed or partially fixed either. Of course there's a possibility that the paint had been polished before.
Pads and compounds:
A very light combo was used for paint correction; FLEX PE14-2 + Lake Country CCS orange light cutting pad + Dodo Juice Lime Prime. However, the horizontal panels were corrected with the FLEX PE14-2 + Menzerna PO203S Lake Country CCS yellow cutting pad combination and then followed with the combo mentioned above.
I found the Volvo clearcoat pretty soft, because the Lime Prime bit it so well and because the PO203S + yellow CCS pad dried very fast and were sticky to run on the surface.
LSP:
I put the Finish Kare 1000P on the bonnet and Zaino Clear Seal elsewhere.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The process:
1) Pre-wash
- A detergent spray wash
- Bilt-Hamber Autofoam
2) Wash
- Bilt-Hamber Autofoam
- Two bucket method + sheepskin mitt
3) Claying
- Zaino Z-18 Claybar
- Bilt-Hamber Autofoam as lubricant
4) Polishing
- Menzerna P203S + Lake Country CCS yellow cutting pad + Flex PE14-2 (only on bonnet and roof)
- Dodo Juice Lime Prime + Lake Country CCS orange light cutting pad + FLEX PE14-2
5) LSP
- Finish Kare 1000P (bonnet)
- Zaino Clear Seal
6) Others
Tyres:
- Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance Tyre Gel
Windows:
- Maston GT Window wash
