Using iPad screen protection film on wood trim
I'm expecting delivery of a new F11 in March, having owned my current one since 2011. My current car has the inevitable scratches, especially around the gear shift trim. I was wondering if there is a way to protect this area and was toying with taking a couple of iPad protection films and cutting to size.
Has anyone tried this or have thoughts on it? How well would it come off if I wanted to replace it and is there any way to get a paper template to cut the film out to?

if that's the route you wanted to go, you could just get a sheet of 3m film. Then it'll be without seems. I'm not sure how that would look tho.

Fair point. Easier to apply. Does it come off cleanly and relatively easily? On a side note, is this any good for protecting the door edges? Is it visible and does it protect well? My parking at home has a wall either side and I can't put any protection on one of the walls. Add in two kids under five...

to clean the residue, you'd want to use a product called Goo gone. NOT "Goof off" as that will destroy the finish.
its a clear finish, I suppose you could use it on your door edges, but i don't think you'd need to. Assuming its factory paint, the door edge is fairly strong and resilient. I probably wouldn't bother with that.
I have 3 kids.. and never had any issues. Mind you, they have to take their shoes off when they went in the M3
