I was going through my car with a light today and didn't feel like I did a good enough job. My buddy who is much better than me with detailing, offered to "school" me on detailing. He is going to be detailing his own car is about a week and told me to go to his house and he'll give me some tips.

I just detailed my car a few weeks ago, by next week it'll be a month, is it ok to do another full detail?

when you say light....wax only?

depends on what the paint looks like - I sometimes clay too.

By light, I mean, I won't spend several hours going through every little thing - just give it a nice wash, a little clay, carnuba and of course interior - clean; I condition the interior only about once a year.

Well, to be fair, I have an Alpine White car, so for me its really easy to keep the car looking clean - darker cars tend to require more elbow grease, obviously.

Search for detailers domain - its a great source of info on detailing.

And just to reflect a little more on your original question: there definitely is such a thing as too much detail - all the wax and polish etc - all these things protect your paint only when you don't abuse them. When I detail, I find that the best way to detail is to use as little of any chemicals as possible.

You won't have a problem cleaning your car to much. The only problem you'll run into is if you start polishing your paint every month with an abrasive polish. That wears down the clearcoat everytime. But if your using a chemical paint cleaner, like Klasse AIO or something similar, you'll be fine using it once a month if you really want to.

Though, you should really only need to do it about every 2 or 3 months if your using carnauba wax & about every 6 months or so if your using a sealant. In between these Major details, wash your car and get your self a decent spray wax to top off your car when your in between details.

I just picked up some Eimann Fabrik Clear Perls II and it's great! I use it on my paint, my windows, even my wheels (which are coated with Wheel Wax). I sealed my car with FK1 2180 about a month ago and it's still going strong. Though i'm feeling ancy and want to clean it up good this weekend

Oh yeah, just make sure when you do detail it, make sure to clean the paint really well and remove all the old wax/sealant. If you use a good paint cleaner you should be good, or use an IPA wipe down if you really need to (50/50 mix of Isopropyl Alcohol & water). You don't want to be layering new and old wax/sealant.

^^^ Thanks bro. I actually have a brand new Meg's paint cleaner at home (haha I know I'm a Meg's whore ), so I'll clean it off first and proceed to polish and wax.

Vlad, I did a good job claying it last time, but I think it was the polishing part that screwed me up. Going to do a "semi" detail soon just wanted to check with the experts first
