Well, I've had my car for 2 weeks now. Although the dealer did a fair job cleaning it up I doubt if the wax they put on it had any bite.
It was time to have my first wash/polish session with my 545i.
Having plenty of advice from the detailing forum and looking foward to using a bottle of REJEX that JDN had given to me during our USA trip ( can't thank you enough JIM - you will see why!!
) - I proceeded as follows :
No high pressure hose or anything like that, 1 bucket of warm water with a small quantity of good car wash shampoo. 1 soft medium sized sponge. 1 very good quality leather chamois.
Golden rule followed: always wash, dry and wax in the direction of airflow over the car.
Started from top, worked my down to bonnet, hood and sides. Each step was first
dried with the chamois in order not to let any water spots develop. Success!
Having an already rather clean and good looking car - I was not prepared with the result I got after finishing with the REJEX....It was ab-so-lu-te-ly amazing!!!
The stuff applies real easy, wait for a haze, and dry off effortlessly...used special
waxing cloths I found from the supermarket.
Also did the windows, just fantastic stuff!!
Finished after 4 hours. Good workout BTW!!
The result speaks for itself.
Check out the direction of waxing, reflection of a wall, and the finished product.
The 545i is looking more "black" than ever!!!
Having been motivated by JDN's 545i, and having followed his tips for cleaning plus the REJEX he gave me, plus the tips from detailing forum, has given me a fantastic result!!
I now have a cleaning routine that I feel comfortable with, thanks to the buddies who have contributed the detailing forum and a personal thanks to Jim
PS. Used the "only water for clean rims technique" - same excellent results!!

Gee whiz, Andy, that picture of that brick wall reflection is outstanding. What a beautiful car you have. I am so glad that it worked out well for you. You and RejeX really make a case for a black car. I noticed that when I had the black X3 shining, it turned about as many heads as the E60, maybe more. The combination of E60 and a glistening black finish has got to be striking to others.
