I decided to go with Griot's. It's the same cost and the Griot's Orbital has much better and newer functions compared to the PC. Afterall, Griot's put PC on the map 8 years ago, before Black and Decker bought them out.

Bruce,

FWIW, MG Enthusiast magazine did a comparison test this month on ten Orbital polishers.

The verdict was as follows:

Sealey ER250P @ ?29.38 - Recommended, but didn't like the non-latching switch. Powerful 230W motor but sounds rough. Not very pretty (?)

Halfords 240v Polisher @ ?29.99 - Recommended but speed reduced quickly when under load (90W motor) Comfortable to hold.

Screwfix 97877 @ ?14.99 - Best Buy, powerful, two handed grip but relatively short (1.95m) cable. 120W motor.

All have 240mm x 40mm pads (except Screwfix at 36mm, but elasticated bonnets included)

Hope this helps.

Mike

Nice topic guys4 What you would use for non metalic Bimmers as for us paint is even bigger pain in the *$$ so does an orbital polisher ok for that too.

Mike nice write-up and thx for usefull info, however is there any chance for links or just google?

ATS,

I would say that an Orbital polisher is just as good for non-metallic's as it is for metallic paints.

No links I'm afraid, as MG Enthusiast Magazine want you to buy the magazine for some strange reason (old fashioned, maybe??). Also, I don't think Halfords or Screwfix will deliver outside UK. Sealey is (I'm sure you're aware) a more well known brand and you may be able to source it locally. Otherwise you would have to ask a British pal to buy the polisher and then mail it to you. Screwfix are well known in the UK as a HUGE DIY mail order company that generally have excellent prices and some good quality products. Some of their cheapo electrical goods are very good value, although not of professional quality, they are good enough for the average householder. Excellent delivery service too.

If you're still interested in the Magazine article, PM me and I'll get my boy to scan it for you.

Mike

Since I'm in the US, I think that Griot's is my choice. That said, a whole lot of people are happy with Cyclo polishers. Frankly, $300 for a polisher is too much for me, but now that the dollar has fallen a bit (again), our Euro/UK friends could buy the best, and CE certified, too! I have Griot's Garage Random Orbital and it's great! I got the white pads from Autogeek for the Zaino AIO and use the Red Pads from Griots for Z5 Pro. Works like a charm!
