My Ride: 2008 535i - jet black, natural brown, bamboo, STEP, sport, premium, nav, HUD, active steering, L7, PDC,
Default

I'm a complete rookie at detailing, but I just got a brand new Jet Black 535i and I want to do my own cleaning. I've been reading around the forums and the amount of info is crazy. I've never washed a car before, so I need to buy some supplies. So far I looked at three kits.

Zaino Ultimate Protection Show Car Kit

Mother's Polish Brush & Towl Kit

The Cobra Total Towl Kit

Would this be everything I would need to do a complete detail? How are the above products? I know the Zaino is spoken of very highly, so is the Ultimate kit complete or are there other products I'll need? How about the towel and brush kits? Do you know of anything better? Again, this will be the first time I've washed my own car so this is all new to me, any opinions will be appreciated.

If you have never washed a car before I'm going to bet that it won't be something that turns your crank and detailing is a lot of work on top of that. I would honestly suggest finding a good detail shop and let them [ do ] your car twice a year! IMHO
Cheers

do not go with kits, because you will not use most of the items half the time, just take your time and research for the right products

Good advise.
But if you really, really want to spend some quality time on your Jet Black machine ... Zaino is outstanding stuff, and I like the Cobra towels you've selected. More importantly - get a couple of good wash mitts. I use the Pinnacle wash mitts - you can find them at AutoGeek.net. They help keep my Jet Black swirl free.

Good luck & show us some pics!

Take a look at this, if you really want to get into it. Oh, and welcome to the Jet Black club.

Stay away from kits, build your own, you always end up with stuff you dont need.

2 places I can recommend are:

www.chemicalguys.com ASK FOR PAUL

or

www.detailersdomain.com ASK FOR PHIL

Call them and tell them your situation and they will tell you what you need, neither of them will try to oversell you!

Tell them that Phil with the M5 sent ya and they will hook you up!

I really like the Adam's Polishes bucket I got.

Came with

Huge Clay Bar, detail spray, all purpose cleaner, polish, swirl remover, wax, microfiber applicators, drying towel, microfiber towels, wash mitt, car wash, Vinyl Rubber care and the bucket.

Listen to this guy! He knows what the f*%k he's talking about. I asked him for a bunch of advice, and I was already pretty much into detailing (at least I thought I was). I couldn't be happier. The Chemical Guys are great, as are detailersdomain. Just watch your wallet. Even though they won't make you buy stuff you don't need, you'll still feel the urge to buy it. Hahahahaha!

PS - Start with a foam cannon. It's the best investment in keeping your car clean.
