I've been interested in learning how to detail cars, paint correction and all, but have always been afraid of ruining my cars finished. Unfortunately now I have a car I can practice on. Long story short my S2000 was keyed and my old insurance (Esurance), refused to cover repair charges. This gives me a car to learn with and not have to worry about burning the finish. What products would be good to start off with?

what did you want to learn?

what did you have in mind , orbital polisher?

do you have a budget you would like to be around?

what color is the s2000?

Black s2000, want to learn paint correction (removal of light swirls and such). I'm trying to figure out how steep the learning curve is when it comes to high speed rotary polishers, and if the results are that worth the extra risk vs an orbital. Would like to keep this under 1k. Any advice is appreciated.

with all the new products out there you don't really need to go straight to a rotary.

here is what I would suggest.

wash
clay
compound
polish
seal or wax

here are the products I suggest.

if you need a heavy compound.

d300

for this d300 you will need the meg's cutting pads

sf4000

for a sealant

Microfiber towels

Clay bar

this should be a great start.

here are a few jobs with the above

Hello everybody!

I am buying a good mx5 within the next week ideally, as well as I've chose to really make an effort to keep it searching tip top as I'd like to proceed and do some car exhibits and fulfills the coming year! With this in mind, and the fact I have to preparation my aged car to be saved, I've invested in some cleansing gear. We visited Chemical Guys as I've study that they're really good as well as purchased personally the DA polisher, together with a few clay, polish shampoo, severe describing lubricant, wool mit and microfibre fabric + pail. Inside the kit I acquired the following:

Kestrel Twin Action Polisher+Backing Plate

One x Chemical substance Guys V34 Optical Grade Compound 16oz
1 by Chemical substance Guys V36 Optical Quality Cutting Shine 16oz
1 x Chemical substance Men V38 Eye Quality Final Shine 16oz
One by Chemical Guys Orange Hex Reasoning Cutting Mat Five.5 "
1 by Chemical Men White Hex Logic Polishing Mat 5.5 "
1 x Chemical Men Dark Hex Logic Finishing Mat 5.5 "
My real question is really to determine the way you guys thoroughly clean your mx5's, and when you've any kind of strategies for someone starting out on detailing and cleansing. I've been viewing video's online on how to clay and use a polisher, however I hope everyone can help me avoid any issues when it comes to mx5's particularly for example any difficult bits to wash and so on. I am searching for a v-special mk1 in BRG, so anything specific in order to looking after that fresh paint would be especially helpful!
Many thanks ahead of time!
