Until I got involved with this forum, I had never in my life heard of the concept of "claying" a car, and I've been driving for over 20 years and even used to detail cars during my summers off from college. It took me till I was 37 years old to hear of this process, and all I can say is "holy sh&$!" I never in my life felt such smoothness on my car. And my 530xi is only a few months old. It had that typical bumpiness in the paint, even after using cleaner wax and a light rubbing compound (just to see if that worked...did nothing). So, after hearing about this clay thing on here I gave it a shot. I must have said the words "holy sh$#" about 100 times during the process. I just wish I had heard about this stuff years ago when I truly had cars that needed to be brought back to life. I used the Meguairs Kit..all I could find at Advance Auto. Pepboys had no clay bars at all. The kit worked great, and it even came with a sweet microfiber towel and lubricant. I don't have pics for ya, but trust me....smoooooooooooth!

I agree, smooth is the word.
I clayed my car after more than 2 years and I was very impressed with the results - I'm sure I'll do twice a year from now on.

Do you notice a difference claying a dark color or light color car? I have a oriental blue (dark blue) and was wondering if I should bother doing it.

Nice job Dave. Yeah, claying makes a world of difference. And to answer the question above, you should do it for ALL colors. It removes much of the contaminents that cause oxidation, which as you may know, causes your paint to fade over time.

Once you clay, you can't go back! Mine is silver, and it's not really a color issue but a pure, cleanliness one. Just let us all know how many times you say "holy sh&$ is this awesome" during the process. Good luck.

I can't wait to see the pix! B/T/W - Gideon sent me the M stickers for my wheels and I put them on yesterday. They look great!

I'm installing my M5 shift knob tonight and will post pix later.

I've got the stickers already in place for tomorrow's install. Gideon actually sent me 2 sets of stickers. So now I don't have to worry in case one falls off. They do fill in that little space nicely! I'll look forward to your pics and will be certain to have mine on ASAP.
