I hate semitruck tires!!!!!!
Earlier this week I was merging onto the highway and my car was struck by tire debri on the highway. The car in front of me ran over it and caused the tire strip to become airborne. Since I was behind him the strip ended up hitting my front bumper. I couldn?t stop to see if there was any damage at the time so I planned to check it our once I arrived at my destination. I forgot to check it that day but I did today. I am so pissed. There is a black mark going across my bumper and the towing screw cover panel is missing. My car looks terrible. I immediately called BMW to see if they have the part. They have it but they have to send it off to have it painted. That will take a week. Now I have to drive around with an open space in my bumper. I'm going to try to wash off the black marks from the tire as soon as I get home today.
I really think something needs to be done about those semi truck tires. I had a rental car over the weekend and something similar happened after a tire blew on one of those trucks. I'm glad it wasn?t my car in that case. There was another instance when I was driving my dads vette in Florida and large piece of tire hit the windshield. Those truck weighing stations should check the tires on those trucks and make them change them if they look bad. Those pieces of tire can cause accidents and damage fine automobiles like my e60.
Does anyone have any recommendations on cleaning my bumper? That tire marks looks like its going to be a pain to get off.

If I knew how to remove, I certainly would. I hit one earlier, but it went under. The black marks are on top of the clear bra, but only on the narrowest part of the bumper and not all that noticeable.
i was in an instance like this once before .. i had asked one of the workers in the paint section at bmw and recomended paint thinner .. he said put a very small amont on a cloth and try cleaning it .... it worked pretty good .. but it does take of any wax you have applied ..
Argh !!!!!
Happened to my wife two weeks ago in her SUV.
A quick spray followed by an application of GOO-GONE and it was gone !
No marks, perhaps we were lucky, but hopefully its just rubber that is stuck on the front bumper.
Good luck !

I had that happen to my IS already. And its only has like 3K miles happened lie when it was 2K miles. a small piece of tire got kicked up and rolled towards me. wasnt muhc i can do and i ran right into it and it left an indentation on the front bumper and a mark on the clear bra. Too much $*&@ on the road!
Truck tire treads, ladders, plastic paint cans & spilled paint, mattresses, cardboard boxes (empty & also full of junk), car batteries (my wife hit one a couple of years ago), pieces of lumber, sofa cushions, sofas, pillows, white plastic shopping bags, clothing, rope, construction tools, wire, car wheels, are all commonly found on our fine California roads & freeways. I recall a story about a year or so ago that the state hghway department (CALTRANS) furnished an entire house from some of the better stuff they retrieved over just a few month period.
Thats nothing, on my previous car (SUV) I was following traffic and all of a sudden Brake pad flies off one of the semi trucks and hits one car behind it and then bounces off my trucks bumper... it put a big gouge on the plastic bumper, but the car in front of me had a huge dent on his hood.
