I wonder how do you guys keep your engine compartment clean and shiny , cause I been wondering what to do in this case , leave to professionals or it is easy to do yourself? What is the cost to have clean it up by professionals? Your feedback will be much appreciated, thanks in a advance.

I'd be interested in hearing how the forum members go about this, also.

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

If you have a pressure washer you can use that, provided you lower the pressure on it and stand back a few feet when spraying.

Go to the store, pick up some automotive citrus degreaser and dilute it with some water. Spray it on the engine bay and agitate with a brush. Rinse off.

Then dress with whatever dressing you have. Or you could pick up a can of CD-2 engine detailer. It puts a coat of silicone on the engine, when it heats up it melts all over the nooks and crannies and last quite a while.

Kaiten,

Your suggestion is great but how do you plan to get rid of all that stubborn soap scum and grout mold/mildew? lol

Great detail on what to do btw, I was lucky that the dealership did a engine bay detail prior to my purchasing so all I have had to do is wipe down with a wet cloth to maintain. Have a great weekend everyone!

I've kept mine clean since new by simply wiping it down with a damp cloth after I wash the car. I use Dupont Teflon protectant on the plastic and rubber parts. You can use Armor-all or whatever.

BMW makes...or used to make...an aerosol spray for the engine that would make everything REALLY shiny. it wasnt a cleaner, but more of a dressing. anyone know what that was? i cant for the life of me find it on the net anymore...im thinking it was called 'engine lak', but im most likely mistaken.
