I wax my rims every 3rd wash. I use P21 cleaner to remove the brake dust during every wash.

Effort is minimal.

Wax the rims. Never thought about it before. I'll try it next time, thanks.

Get an old tooth brush, some neat car shampoo, and scrub... Works fine for me For really bad tar spots use some T-Cut.

The BMW OEM rims are quality stuff.

They can handle quite a beating.

Use tuff solvants, I have even used really light acid for older rims.

I also wax my rims every spring with a old car- or rim wax.

Since the rims are aluminum the only thing that one should not do is to scratch them!
After that the dirt will sit even harder.

Use this on your rims: http://www.corrosionx.com/rejex.html

It holds up under the heat better than wax. I use it on the entire car.

I learned about it on this forum. Use search to find more information.

I wax my rims about 3x per year, when I wax the car. I have not problems cleaning the rims (car soap and a mit).

If you really have to work on the rims, I would suggest a power-ball (available from Mothers). Goes on the end of a drill and works great for polishing rims.

I would be carefull with softscrub as I belive it is an abrasive and eventually could cut through the clear coat finish. I would stick with a good cleaner wax and foam pad.

what kind of rims do you guys have?
I have the standard 138's
parked next to a buddy today with an e60 and he has the 123's - and I know he does not take care of his car like I do mine - and his rims were spotless -

So my question is - is this a 138 thing?

I try not to use anything on my rims that I would not use on my paint. If you wash the rims each time you wash the car, you should have no problems. Soft scrub over time will destroy your rim's paint! Go to autopia.org and learn how to safely detail your car.

I use a Sonicare toothbrush to clean the corners of the wheels - works great!

If you haven't waxed your rims do it - it makes the cleaning process so much easier.

Ivory Liquid detergent will easily clean the wheels without scratching them. I use Zymol spray-on wheel protectant afterwards. This makes each cleaning extremely easy.
