My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
I know I could make this short, but I havr time to kill
I have had issues cleaning the front rims - have had teh car 3 months, washed weekly and teh front rims were always dark with brake dust and I could not get it all off - tried soap, water, rim cleaner, and a rim brush - and never got it all off
So today I was detailing teh car and got mad - went though the wife's house clening supplies and found
SOFT SCRUB
worked like a charm - no scratches - just a little bit with a fair amount of water - almost effortless - and cleaned both rims in under 10 minutes
BTW - the light was not really good - so I can not guarantee that no scratches were made, but there does not appear to be any

Really? maybe I'm blind but I have no problem cleaning the rims... I can wipe off all the brake dust even with just water and it looks clean.

Soft scrub is an abrasive. It will eventually dull the wheels. You'll have swirl marks all over the wheels. A fine abrasive, but abrasive, nonetheless.
Would you take Comet to your wheels? Steel wool will get the wheels clean too, but don't use any of these things.
The only real solutions are:
1) Don't drive the car (no fun)
2) Brake-dust shields (hides brakes, looks fugly)
3) Spray off after every drive (pain to do, may not get everything off anyway)
4) Good old-fashioned elbow grease.

When I am following "my procedure," I just spray quick detailer on and use a very soft large beach towel to to a 90% job every day or so. Then, I use quick detailer, the soft towel, and some small soft Griot's cotton cloths weekly to do a thorough job. No scratches, and all comes off.

My Ride: 2008 M5 -- Exterior: Silverstone, Interior: Black. Fully Loaded. That just about sums it up! :-)
I wax my rims every 3rd wash. I use P21 cleaner to remove the brake dust during every wash.
Effort is minimal.

I could not scrub off with regular cleaner and elbow grease - believ me I tried
BTW - I did think of comet and steel wool - they were right next to the soft scrub
I know it is a mild abrasive but nearly like comet or the steel wool
I was thinking it was like a polishing compound - we use those on our paint from time to time
I tried waxing the rims - but that did not work
