It'll work, it just won't last very long if the rim has lots of dust. Do a regular wheel cleaning and use
clay bar last.
Oh, if you drop the clay- don't use it. Embedded dirt will scratch the surface.

Cleans hard water deposits off windows like nobody's business. My windows are spotless. Now I need to do the paint!!! But the windows illustrate very well what the clay removes. Note to self, use filtered/conditioned house water, vice crappy hard water straight from my well !

Yeah, sort of like prison. Don't drop the soap! In both cases, if you do, just leave it down there. Otherwise, you won't like the results!
