I see that not too many people read the detailing forums, so I thought I'd post here too, and possibly save other people from a sleepless night.
Last Friday night, my wife put some antique (steel) push chair up against the garage wall.
To cut a long story short, it fell over onto my rear bumper and slid down the side (just behind the rear wheel arch).
95% of the length of the scratch is like a hairline scratch. But at the top and bottom it is a bit deeper.
I tried Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish (because I had some available), but with no success.
I spent the whole of Friday night searching the web for advice on getting rid of these scratches.
Then on Saturday I went and bought some Meguiar's Scratch X.
The first pic below shows the location of the scratch.
The 2nd Pic shows the scratch before using Scratch X
NOTE that the entire area of this photo represents an area on the car which is less than 1 inch wide.
Scratches 1, 2 & 3 seem to be the deepest.
Scratches 4 & 5 , and sets 6 & 7 appeared initially to be very similar in depth to 1, 2 & 3.
The 3rd Pic shows the scratch after Using Scratch X.
Scratch X removed scratches 4 through 7 very well!
It took a lot of effort but the results are impressive
The remaining scratches 1,2 & 3 can now only be seen in direct sunlight and only if you know where to look and your head is 1 foot from the car. They are visible in the pics only because I used a flash.
My Wife will have to write a thank you note to Mr Meguiar .... she only had to sleep on the sofa for one night
Actually a big thank you to Mr Meguiar from me too

Sorry for the incident. I felt for you, too. My car was keyed and my heart was broken. Need to bring it to the body shop and spend a couple hundred of dollars.
Now is the time for the new excuse to upgrade to 550i J/K.
