I am looking at the Porter Cable Ultimate Detailing Machine and the Griots model. In comparing them I noticed

* Porter Cable UDM rotates between 2500 and 6000 rpm
* Griots rotates between: 4000 and 7000 rpm.

*PC has a 4.2 Amp motor
*Griots has what I believe to be a 6 Amp motor (couldn't find this on Griot's site but saw it on-line elsewhere)

For general use, which rpm range is better (2500-6000) vs (4000 to 7000)? Also, is there a benefit to the 6 amp motor over the 4.2 amp motor for general use?

I also noticed the Porter Cable has a handle on the side of the unit while Griot's is on top.

Any comments on which grip position (top vs side) is more comfortable?

Thanks!

If your careful and attentive do what your doing I doubt that any of the DA orbitals would cause damage. A rotary would be a different story, though.

I have a Maguiar's G110 which is similair to the Proter Cable....no complaints except that I think Flex would save you some time and effort in swirl and scratch removal.

There is a lot of good info at the forum over at autogeek - http://www.autogeekonline.net/
