After getting off work, I was sitting in my car adjusting my radio. All of a sudden I feel a thud and my heart drops. Some chick on her cell backed out of her spot and into my rear in a parking lot, and I WASN'T EVEN MOVING. I was sitting perfectly in my designated spot. Sigh. Her Benz C230 rear bumper was pretty bent up and scratched. I suffered minor scratches on my bumper and a chip. I sorta wished she messed up my bumper more so I could get a M-tech kit .
Worst part is that the police says theres nothing they can do about it because no witnesses!! Since its only minor, cop told me just to fix it yourself and not have insurance involved.
I decided to take pictures of the scratched bumper, but it sorta turned into a photo shoot.
So anyways, how should I fix this? Went to detail shop and said it'll buff out and look 80% new but the chip is the problem. He said he could spray with original paint. He'll just mask and paint the bottom portion for another $65. Any other alternative that won't hit my wallet too bad?

Great excuse to get the M-tech kit. C'mon, you know you want the M-tech. Anyway, if that isn't a viable option them look around. There are always members selling their stock bumpers for cheap after getting their M-tech kit installed.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. The only true fix will be to prep and re-spray (prepping might include filling the scrape in the bumper as well). The $65 your detail shop is suggesting sounds like a budget approach...don't know if you'll be happy with the results but you certainly won't be out much if it doesn't work. I'd take the reputable body shop approach but it will cost a few hundred bucks to get it back to perfect. Good luck and keep us posted.

Is the other driver not going to pay for your damage??? I just paid someone $350.00 for a similar damage that I caused. You should not settle for a $65.00 repair... You should take it to a reputable body shop and repair it for a 3-4 hundred dollars.

If budget is an issue and a several hundred $ repaint isn't in the cards, you might just work on it yourself and wait for the next ding or dings before taking it in. It all depends on how much it bugs you.
I just had almost exactly the same thing happen to me, except it was a bump n run - I don't know who did it. I used a kit from Dr. Colorchip to fill in the chip and then buffed most of the scratches out with ScratchX. It looks pretty acceptable now and I'm waiting for the next dings to take it in (or get the M-tech kit!).
