Does anyone use 4" pads (on a 3.5" backing plate) as part of general polishing practice, say for headlights or awkward areas of E60 bodywork? Or do 6" pads handle it all, and should only ever need 4" pads for specific trouble spots?
I did just notice that on the underside of my Meguiars G220 (on the counterweight) it says 'only use a 5 inch plate'

I use 4 inch pads on my da as well as the rotary.

meguiars might say that because it may be balanced so the optimal pad size would be 5 inch or 6 inch.

it may cause the machine to vibrate a bit.

call them up I'm sure they would have a good reason behind it.

I think you are on to something. I found a post at meguiars website forum that complained of vibration using 4" pad with the 6" counterweight, but claimed that it was a lot smoother using 4" pad with the 5" weight.

PC + 4" pad

Should I need to get spot pads, I'll not worry about it..

Would you run 4" pads at lower speed (on a PC/G220) for general polish application, say no more than 4.5 ?
