in the States where you have 200.000$ rims (Asanti) might not be a luxus car but in Europe BMW is in the segment not as snob as MB luckily.

Answer:all of the points, most the design=look, performance of a new generation (old) diesel

Slight cheat - I have an E61, but I certainly don't regard it as a "luxury" car (a 7 series maybe).
It allways depends on what you compare and where you're coming from. If yoiu never had a luxury car, the E60 is one. If you allready had a 7er, it may not. But if the 7 series was stock and the E60 is fully loaded...
So it allways depends...

You missed "all of the above". Those are all reasons why I bought one.

Mmm - yeah - I can see your point.

"My" definition of luxury is slightly different. For me, "luxury" implies a certain kind of image, not just advanced technology or abundance of non-necessary (but very nice) extras. What I mean is that (to me) if you have a luxury car, you almost definitely have many more than one (e.g. your Bentley, your Ferrari, your Lambo, your Aston, and then, when you want to be driven by the chauffeur, the Rolls), whereas many people here "make do" with their modest E60s. But perhaps I am confusing luxury with wealth.

Yep, I see. That's exactly why, in my first post, I used "comfort"/luxury.

None of the above for me. I bought for sport, luxury, looks, performance, price, and prestige.

For me it was Sports Sedan performance and Looks. I owned two e39's and when the first 7's came out I absolutely LOVED their look. To me it was so unique, even with the "Bangle Butt" I thought if the next 5 is made along that design "I have GOT to get me one of these!" It took me a couple of years but I got one and I love it.

In my case, performance/sport and luxury. Looks didn't enter into it, nor did prestige. (Though I now like the looks of the car MUCH more than I did initially. It grows on you!)

Loved the performance of my first E60 530d SE but wasn't taken by the looks. Fell completly in love with the M sport and still do - love it all

I would have selected the all of the above option as well. I love the speed and look of the car and I believe that it has a lot of luxury. My mother works for Lexus so she's leased almost every car in their repetoire and every time I drive her GS, I still am glad to be a BMW owner.
