Evidently there is some crazy, rich guy in town that goes back and forth between the brands every few months. Some peoples needs change, etc.
Sounds like the Quandt family over here... But they only get BMW's of course...

Use me as an example. Next year I am going to trade my 525i for a 530, 545i or M5 if i can get it on time.

Was thinking about the 645 but then I will miss the fun here on e60.net

Both BMW and MB have about the same amount of cars for sales.

BMW 120 vs Eclass 115 cars for sales

BMW = 120 for sale
320 EClass = 110 for sale
320 EClass CDI = 5 for sale

Those are 04 to 05 cars for sale in Autotrader using the whole USA as the region to buy.

I dont think it's a big deal that there are so many cars for sale because USA is a huge country !

mine got totalled but I was going to trade in anyway after 4 months and 6k miles as we wanted Nav and 530i..upgrading.....I change my 2 cars atleast once a year......if you want to look at propotions....look on leasetrade and swapalease.......most people are leasing there cars for cost and tax reasons and there are fewer 04 5's than comparable vehices of other brands.......

As far as the build quality and issues of the 5.......there have been more problems and cars taken back by BMW on SMG issues than any other area...especially on the M3's..I personally know of 3 whose cars bmw had taken back on smg issues and 2 with the 7 series I drive problems

Take a look at http://www.mobile.co.uk or http://www.mobile.de (in german) to see how many e60s are for sale in Europe!

Some e60's are crap and have too many problems, even if they are fixed under warranty.
That's it, mostly.

I have read a lot of user complaints giving up of unsolved problems, not being covered or solved by warranty period. :'(

Last chance they see is to get rid of the car by Interenet. Sounds bad, but seems to be reality.

But this of course this won't solve the general problem: Another user will be born being newbie in a board like this desperately searching for help - and the dealer is out of responsibility - bad world.

Mine is for sell because I didn't order NAV. I will lose $8k. As soon as the sale is complete, I plan to reorder the same vehicle with NAV.

I've been a member of a few boards for different cars and this topic always comes up.

Peoples' circumstances change, and a lot of people get some fully loaded BMW company cars (the majority of sales), and then move on to a new company before the lease runs out (especially those in IT sales).

Don't take it as a desirability test. I'm yet to see a forum where this topic doesn't come up for new models after about a year on the road.

I've read Motor Trend's long term report on Z4 with SMG. They claim that the SMG has been very problematic. I know SMG is a hoot to drive but its reliability is still unclear to me.

The only reason I can think of, and I am speeking for myself only, that I would turn in my car within a year would be:
1. Financial catastrophy.
2. Can't tolerate choice of transmission.
3. Medium problems that dealer won't or can't fix. For example: Nav malfunction, AC malfunction..etc.
