there is no need to write it down in HK cos they will fill out the form saying
1. how many km it done.
2. how much fuel it has.
3. any marks on the car.
4. any mods on the car.
5. the date that it was in.
then you and the dealer have to sign it and they will give a copy to you.

but sorry to hear this.
next time get them to fill out a form, no matter what you do to the car.

Thanks!! You know here in Atlanta GA South BMW, the BMW dealer SA does the very same thing that you are talking about, but they fail to tell you the customer that, but due to a prior scratch that happened in April 2006 to my brand new Aero M package I just bought from that same dealer, and had it installed by BMW for $3000.00, to that same BMW, at the very same BMW dealership in Atlanta, GA, and when I found the new scratch, I showed it to Al the BMW SA then, and he just said grinned, and said to me that is such a small scratch, you must had picked it up on the expressway I-285 is full of trash you know, and besides it must had already been there, because our BMW service technicians can be trusted! (The don't know this, but I am a professional driver that is EVOC trained by the federal gov. and I know what to watch out for when I drive an emergency vehicle too, and well as my personal ones)

That scratch that I found that cost me to have a front section repainted that cost me $400.00 to repair, which I got wise and started that very same procedure that your talking about myself, (documenting everything, gas, body, rims, mileage when I dropped it off and have the SA to do a walk around inspection and sign off it as I drop off and leave my BMW in his hands), and that is how I caught them driving my BMW 29. miles excessive miles that it did not require by BMW books, for a routine warranty work, and service work that I paid for ($200.00+) out of pocket. Like you this is my car I am buying, and I wear it like a show car, and don't expect it to be drove it around town when I bring it in and pay them to service it at their authorized BMW dealership.

All in all I know what I am up against, but I just want other BMW's owners here in the USA and the world to be aware and a heads up on what's going in Atlanta GA BMW at a dealer to our BMW's when taken in for service, and be sure to document everything, and remember like the well known Atlanta Attorney friend of mine once said to me, Eddie, I know this might sound elementary to you and others, but this is the way it is to most local law enforcement agencies, attorney's, and even to some judges: this old saying they go by that old saying and it applies most of the time when their investigating cases "were a crime against persons has been committed": "If it aint written down or witnesses by someone, then is aint TRUE!" (LOL) He said write everything down that's important to you! That's what I do now, and a pain in the A?!, (LOL), as it is sometimes when in a hurry to get some where.

Sincerely,

R. Eddie Presley

That's good info.

I always have the service tech write down the odo reading on the invoice whenever I drop off the car for service especially if I'm leaving the car overnight.

"TCU" Does that stand for Traction Control Unit? If so then maybe a few miles are necessary to test it properly. Although the SA agreed the mileage was a bit high, the roads and traffic in Union City (My sis lives there and I am relocating not too far from there myself) may have warranted the extra miles. This is just a thought.

Its pretty common for dealerships to use cars that are on "test runs" fo other small errands, although none of them will tell you this up front.

I think the dealership did a decent job of trying to compensate you (any idea how much that BMW umberlla cost ). And paying for the gas was also a good gesture as long as they pay you promptly. However, by accepting this you are letting them off the hook for any future problems or damage that you could argue was their fault when they drove your car.

For hindsight - Whenever you get your car back from service check the miles and gas immediately. This way you can make the dealership pay for the gas in order for you to accept the car.

That's a nice ride you have there... I'd be tempted to take it for a joyride myself if I had the chance!!!!! Can you blame them????

But seriously you are right!!!! and I'm sure they know they got caught.

Thanks for the reminder. I always try to remember to check the miles before I bring the cars in for service and almost every time I would forgot.

I think in the case of when they did something wrong and try to offer something for it, make sure they offer it right there and to your satisfaction, be it cargo liner or something that can be to use right away. Getting a check in the mail will just take forever. An umbrella? that's a joke.

I suppose your right, but you know ALL the money we spend on our BMW's and the dealers have no more respect for us than to let this sort of adversity happen to its loyal customer, and YES I will be happy that it will never happen to me or anyone else again and if they will stand up to their end of the deal and get my gas check to me so I can pay my credit card without Interest, (which I ought to pass it on to them at their rate I am be charging by my credit card co, until the bill is paid: 28.9% LOL, but "I wish they would either S??? or get off the pot" and pay me the ($54.89), what they promised a few weeks ago now! You know if the shoe was on our foot, you know that the local BMW dealer would want their money + any interest charges they might come up with if not paid on time!! LOL)

Oh forget my problem, but did you read this one yet about the new Silverstone M5 that got taken home at 2am in the morning and got totaled, and left the scene!! (CLICK ON M5 e60 LINK BELOW) That very same thing could happened to one of us, unless we don't notify BMW North America, and they firm stand and for all BMW authorized dealers to ALWAYS go by their set forth rules & regulations for us BMW owners, with their authorized BMW dealers in the USA! Otherise we might as well stopped buying BMW's, and all buy american corvettes!! (Just kididng, I still love BMWs much better than dangeous with no protection fiberglass corvettes, (I owned two new vettes before my BMW and BMWs are much nicer,, and safer to drive!!!!!), there are just some authorize BMW dealers, with lack of control of their employees here in the states "who are giving BMW a black eye" by the type of BS that their doing to us e60 owners!!).

Hey all,

Read this story on a local Santa Rosa, CA newspaper website. Not sure if it's a repost, but thought I'd share.

It's 5:39 a.m. -- do you know where your $100,000 BMW is?
By Chris Smith, Press Democrat Columnist
March 30, 2008

The BMW Courtesy Photo/ Charles Himes

When Charles Himes hit the pillow on Easter eve, the 38-year-old Santa Rosa real estate agent assumed his 2006 BMW M5 was safely bedded down, too.

Three days earlier, on March 19, he had taken the high-performance, $100,000 car back to the dealer, Prestige Imports, for some warranty work.

At 5:39 a.m. Easter morning, Himes said, his phone rang. The caller identified himself as a Santa Rosa police officer, then asked, "Where's your car?"

"I thought he was joking," Himes said. He replied that his car was in the shop at Prestige Imports.

Actually, the officer informed him, the 500-horsepower, V-10 BMW was at that moment badly damaged and at rest alongside the parked car it had slammed into earlier Easter morning on Coffey Lane near Guerneville Road.

Himes drove over in the loaner Prestige gave him.

Sad, sad sight. The Beemer's passenger side was crumpled from the impact.

"I think the car is totaled," Himes said.

WHOEVER WAS DRIVING when the BMW crashed had left the scene, Himes said. Santa Rosa police confirm that the collision, though still under investigation, is considered a hit-and-run.

Himes said he found in the back seat a piece of mail addressed to an employee of the Prestige Imports service department. Easter morning was still young when Himes and some police officers went to the man's house and confronted him.

A short while later that Easter Day, a Prestige Imports manager arrived at the employee's home and fired him.

JUMP TO THE PRESENT: Himes said Friday he wants Prestige Imports to pay off his loan on the BMW and to replace it. He has retained a law firm.

He said that to this point the dealership's response to his requests made following the crash is to tell him to deal with his own insurance company.

Steve Hansel, the owner of Prestige, said Friday that Himes contributed to the problem by telling the service employee to keep and drive his car over Easter weekend.

Hansel said the ex-service adviser had phoned Himes on Good Friday and told him he needed to come pick up the BMW, put some miles on it and bring it back on Monday the 24th for inspection.

Hansel said Himes didn't want to pick up his car one day and return it three days later, so he told the service employee to keep it over the weekend and drive it himself.

The employee violated company rules by agreeing to take home and drive a customer's car, Hansel said.

"Our ex-employee had no business doing it," he said. "It's totally against company policy. It cost somebody his job and possibly his career."

Regarding the demand by Himes that Prestige Imports pay off his car loan and buy him another BMW, Hansel said, "Our reaction then and now is that it's an insurance matter." He said his dealership's insurance company has been advised.

HIMES' ACCOUNT is that when the service adviser asked him to come pick up his car on Good Friday, drive it over the weekend and bring it back the day after Easter, he did say he wanted the dealership to take care of it.

Himes said the service employee affirmed to him that he would personally drive the car. "I told him I don't care who drives it," Himes said.

But he insists he had no reason to believe the man would be out driving his car at 2:30 in the morning.

Now, he waits to see how Prestige will respond to his demand that the dealership make things right by giving him another car.

I too had a similar situation in Grand Rapids, MI at Sharpe BMW, I dropped off my 545 for service and picked it up the next day and it vibrated like crazy. Even my kids asked me what was wrong with it. After about 4 miles I took it back to the dealer but my SA had left for the night, so another SA wrote it up and I took the loaner home. When the SA called me the next day he asked me what I hit, because all 4 rims are bent?? Well they must have taken my car out and must have hit a curb or major pot hole. I was ticked, and asked what they are going to do about it, and they called me back and said they would split the cost with me. I talked to the mgr and owner and they stood their ground. Fortunately it was only $200 out of my pocket but still...I said I will not be coming back here again, cause I know I didn't hit anything. It does get one's blood boiling. I didn't look at the milage either, dang I wish I did.

Thanks for the good advice!
